SOLD -Original Colt 1877 .38 Lightning

Post by Rube Burrows »

I have a very nice Colt 1877 Lightning Revolver in .38.

The guns has been gone through by well respected 1877 gunsmith Salvatore Lanara. He has fitted it with new springs and made sure it was running well and in timing. I have not shot it since it came back from him. It has been sitting in the safe since. This one should run a long time. I have decided to just keep my .41 cal 1877s and sell this one since it's the only .38 I have. The manufacture date does possibly put it in the Tobacco Gun range for those of you who know what that is.

Barrel is 4.5" long.

I am looking to get $1,500 plus 35 shipping

Made in 1902 so it will have to be shipped to FFL or C&R lic.

The following was posted on another forum so I thought I would include it here.

Given the date of production, this revolver should have a 0.357-0.358” bore. You can use 38spl dies to load Starline 38 long colt brass and use standard 38 caliber 125 cowboy bullets instead of the old 0.375” heel-type bullets. I have one of similar vintage. The seller can confirm the groove diameter with calipers at the muzzle. If you want one to shoot, this is it!

I went ahead and measured the muzzle like he said and mine came out to 0.358"

Thanks. It's a beauty. I like the 1877s. I have a few .41 caliber ones and picked this one up but decided to stick to the .41s for now.
