I was working on repairing a wobbly stock on my family’s 1890 pump today. I had hoped it would be an easy fix but the lower tang’s shelf is just missing. I didn’t think to take pictures before putting it back together.
How would one go about making a new shelf? I’ve attached an image from the internet that shows the shelf in place. The part circled in yellow is missing from our stock and I’d like suggestions on fixing it.
I do have an acraglas kit

Re: Winchester 90 Stock Repair Question
If it were me, I would carve out a channel on the inside of the stock below the line here you want the ledge. then fit a strip of walnut into the channel and glue it in. The I would file and sand the walnut to the shape I wanted in the stock. The upper edge of the walnut strip will be the ledge. You will have to sand it down so everything clears when you slide the metal parts into the wood.

Re: Winchester 90 Stock Repair Question
I've done stock repairs like this without removing any wood. I simply scraped or filed the mating surface inside, then used my table saw to cut thin pieces of hardwood to fit inside the area. I epoxied them in place and used wood laid across the filler and across the outside of the stock so I could C clamp it on both ends while it setup. I try to get the filler pieces close so I wont need to remove too much after it's secured.
Once secured I use scrapers and files to get the shape right and it's done. I usually don't bother with staining or much, but I do apply a coat of finish just to seal the repaired wood.
