Hard to find a more clear-cut example of just why no citizen should EVER allow government to decide who gets to carry a concealed weapon.

The situation likely wouldn't even happen in a place where the attackers knew a large percentage of their victims were going to shoot them.
Sure, if they just want to kill you, they will do that from concealment or from a position so far away you can't do anything, but this wasn't an assassination, it was a sexual assault.
I'm pretty sure that when the first auto-glass was shattered, if one (or better yet, both) of the victims had put a couple hundred grains of lead into one or two of the attackers, the rest would suddenly decide they had someplace else they would rather be.
If nothing else, even had the attack succeeded, both of the victims would be a bit less scarred-for-life, were they at least able to say they tried their best to resist, versus trusted some politician and their minions to 'protect' them by prohibiting the law-abiding citizens from carrying concealed firearms, and by showing up after the crime to make sure the paperwork was all filled out correctly.
Since the age of 21 (legal age of CCW where I grew up), I don't think I've EVER left my home without at least a handgun on me and/or in my vehicle. In the rare case my destination legally prohibited, I'd disassemble or disable the firearm and leave it in my vehicle. Most of the 'gun free zones' where I live are merely notices that if found with a firearm, they will ask you to leave - only a few places like courtrooms, airports, and jails are actually able to legally act on those who violate their gun-free policies.
For the first half of my life, the firearm(s) in my vehicle usually cost more than I'd spent on the vehicle (I tended to buy hand-me-down $200 vehicles until I was about thirty years old).... Now the guns are about five times as expensive, but even though I buy new guns and used cars, the vehicles have gone up more and are about fifty times as expensive...!

Hey, they got rid of border control between the countries of the EU. Once inside the EU they won't have their status checked again. So "moving freely" is exactly what they voted for. Why are they complaining.
