444 Marlin and 375 Winchester (and 38-55) comparison

Post by AJMD429 »

.
Another Buffalo Bore ammunition video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmTTuxQbcbI

I'm enjoying his videos - and envious of his immense gun collection (he complains that he "only has three 444 Marlins..." :D ).

It is interesting he says that Ruger will be making the Marlin 44 Magnums with 1:20 twist...I couldn't tell if he also meant the 444 Marlins would be as well.

That was excellent video of the similarities of these cartridges! Not so sure i swallow his 1:38 Twist excepantance just because of a faster muzzle velocity? Not saying he's wrong, but I'm not sure if understand and believe it? I'd have to prove that one for myself! But I watch most all his when I get into watching any videos, really admire his boldness! I think?

I had an acquaintance in Oregon named Pete Thornily (see his power factor equation) and Pete was a good friend of Marshall Stanton as well as being a very advanced handloader. Pete and Marshall came up with their own blended powders to boost velocity in the .444 among others, and Pete used his Marlin with the 1:38 twist and heavy bullets (350 grains???) very successfuly in Africa. I think Tim is fully correct about raising velocity to enhance heavy bullet stability in a slower-twist barrel.
