Skipping buckshot (pardon the language)
We were taught this method of using a shotgun and pistol bullets back in the day.

Never tried that but we used to 'frag ' chipmunks and squirrels with 22s when they would hunker down on the stone rows, ' barking ' squirrels when hiding it a tree too!

makes me wonder if hard-cast shot would be an improvement, or not. and i wonder if this would be useful for shooting under cars?Scott Tschirhart wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2024 3:45 pm We were taught this method of using a shotgun and pistol bullets back in the day.

Re: Skipping buckshot (pardon the language)
30 years ago a little MO Community College decided they were going to run a basic police academy. They hired a local police Lt. (Lt. Dangle type) to teach firearms. He decided to teach skip-fire with buckshot on the CC's pretty poor indoor range. He managed to hit a seam in the concrete floor, with the first shot, and a buckshot fragment came up and destroyed a four tube flourescent light, right over his head. He just sorta disappeared in this glowing cloud of vapor and was standing in a pile of broken glass, looking at the shotgun like it was possessed. It was hilarious.
People were smarter before the Internet, or imbeciles were harder to notice.

We were taught that also and got to practice it at Ft Bragg near MOTT LAKE. It is GREAT for under cars.

He actually got good numbers of pellets on the cardboard target. Not bad considering the fact that he was using a tactiKool shotgun with no buttstock.

i would have liked to see the adjustment necessary to hit target 2horsesoldier03 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 12:30 am He actually got good numbers of pellets on the cardboard target. Not bad considering the fact that he was using a tactiKool shotgun with no buttstock.

Might not be able to hit the second one. The pellets tend to follow the plane of the hard surface and don’t bounce like a billiard ball.Grizz wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 2:02 ami would have liked to see the adjustment necessary to hit target 2horsesoldier03 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 12:30 am He actually got good numbers of pellets on the cardboard target. I don’t think of this shotguns as “tacticool”. But I think it’s a useful tool.

In 1989 the Ohio Peace Officer Academy taught skipping buckshot. I went through their shotgun instructor program in 1997, I don’t think they were teaching that by then.

I think that’s pretty much what happened across the country. Probably a liability issue. But it’s still a good tool to have in the toolbox.
