Lee auto bench prime

Post by 4t5 »

I just picked up one of these and for less than $35 , it to me is well worth the money spent.
The lee hand tool was just no fun anymore. And since they take the same dies , it was a no brainer.
There is a bit of a learning curve on the tray, after a few times , i really like it.
So if you’re tired of hand priming , give it a go. I’ve got no horse in this race.

Both large and small ,bought at natchez shooting and outdoor, it’s available everywhere. If you don’t have the auto prime bushing set , you’ll need that too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5CSkxpomJk

I suggest anyone looking to upgrade consider the RCBS tool. It was over $100 and while I dont know if its is any better than the Lee or worth the higher price. I purchased it to handle 577 Snider. I have not used it since becasue I am some kind of ocd crazy and went back to hand priming. Plus it takes up my limited bench space. It takes standard shell holders not the special Lee hand tool holders. All I am saying is look at the RCBS alternative. I like Lee in general and they were the only reasonable source for Snider dies. I use the universal decapping and the collet type crimping dies.

BTW, RCBS now makes a hand primer. It did not handle the snider for some reason but I have it just becasue it uses std shell holders. I think this was another tool used once for a special case head size. I have this and two of the Lee hand primers. I will be using the Lee today. Maybe I am wasting money here, so take this for what it is worth. Again, I am not knocking the Lee.

For every caliber that I don't load on my Dillons, I use an RCBS bench-mounted priming tool. I've had it for years and it works very well. I don't have that tool or several others (case trimmer, lubrisizer, etc.) mounted permanently, I clamp them to my bench when I need them.

For just priming, and not removing primers, I still use my very old Lee hand priming tools. Mine are from way back when the primer trays were round, and they work extremely well for me. So well that when I saw one NIB at our local gun show for $5 I bought a 2nd one so I could leave one setup for small and one for large primers. Don't recall how many decades I've owned these, but I got the first one when they were first offered, and also bought the shell holder sets Lee offered. I've made a few oddball shell holders for those Lee doesn't offer by taking a regular Lee or other brand shell holder and simply cutting off the base using my dremel and a cutoff disc.

Picked one up a few years ago and never looked back. Great tool. I pretty much use it exclusively, as I don't load on a progressive machine. :D
