We had our monthly collector show today, and after things slowed down I did a quick look around to see if there was anything left of interest? A couple tables over from mine was a young couple selling a lot of factory ammo. Didn't see any real bargains, or anything I needed much. I started to move on when I saw a long white box with a Lee Shaver label, and written on top was, ".22 adapter for .45-70 $20" !
I opened the box to see if it was all there, and it was complete, and appeared to have been used very little! Inside was an old receipt for $187! The date was about 15 years old as today they're $260! Always wanted to try one, but not at the old or new price. At $20 there was no question whether I'd give one a try!
We have monthly themes for gun displays, and today was "Remington" so I did a small display of my 5 Hepburn rifles. Cell phone pics.

Beautiful display, Vall!
And a nice find regarding the .22 adaptor.
Thanks for the pictures.
Thanks Walt!
They are top left a .40-65 Win. DST with Stevens scope. Top right a .32-20 with midrange Soule, and globe front. Center an engraved .45-70 with unknown maker full length scope. Bottom left a Match B .32-40 with factory sights and DST and only known 34" barrel Match B. Bottom right a Match A .25-20 with Lyman Targetspot scope.
Great find Vall. I had a Lee Shaver adapter for .45-70 and used it some, but never gave it an accuracy wring-out. Be curious how yours shoots. Beautiful Hepburns.
Cell phone lens looks clean now, but no telling if it was then? It was also raining Sunday morning, and maybe it got rain or fogged up?
I'll get a picture of the adapter later and post it.
I bought one of those 22 adapters for my buffalo gun a few years ago -- don't remember what it cost then but it was a lot more than $20. Thought I'd use it in our monthly 22 match but it was heavy enough in the buff gun that my off-hand was too sucky for prime time. Now have a cute little Martini-action that is more within my capabilities. So I may be one of those folks giving somebody a "deal" on a 22 adapter one of these days. Would be great for practice for somebody participating in the off-hand buffalo gun stuff like they do over at the John Day shoots, but I'm probably "aged out" of that kind of competition.

Yes, nothing I own in .45-70 is under 10 lbs. and some as heavy as 14 lbs., so not good for offhand. Mainly just bought this to play with and figured for $20 it's worth giving it a try.
