Prayers up for our FL pards

Post by Griff »

I was hoping to unload the last of my freight at a store in the path of Milton today, but they decided to close early, sending their folks home so they could prepare for the anticipated onslaught of Milton. I'm currently sitting on the east coast, preparing to head to Miami in the morning so I'm not in any danger (hopefully). If you can, get out of the projected path, if you do, travel safe and be a little patient with the idiots who are of the "me first, last & always" mindset. Y'all are in my prayers.

Watching the storm coverage on Fox News now. Looks like it is going to be horrendous. Prayers up for them for sure.

I drug a few branches over toward the fire pit today. Lots of oaks gave up some substantial limbs. I'll have to wait until the fire pit dries up ... it's full of water. Our lake is only about 18" under our dock today. Most of my neighbors' docks are under water. In my area, the big problem is the high winds knocking trees into overhead power lines. I was spared this time, but the other side of my neighborhood is still without power.
... I love poetry, long walks on the beach, and poking dead things with a stick.

We lost power Wednesday night...and got it back Friday morning.
A big 30" water oak is down.
Branches are everywhere.
Place is a mess....
Minor soffit and fascia damage to the house.
The wind was so loud, there was no way I could sleep.

The two houses across the culdesac, not a branch out of place. :D

I finally got empty yesterday. I'd driven down to Miami so I wasn't in the path of the storm, then Thursday, I drove up to Lake Wales trying to get ahold of the folks at the store I was supposed to deliver to. Nobody could, apparently the whole of Wauchula was without electricity. When I finally got in touch with them yesterday morning and got over there, the damage was seemingly limited to trees and knocked down wires & poles. The folks there said that it wasn't near as bad as the media & weather forecasters predicted. Traffic headed back south into the Tampa area yesterday and today appeared as bad as it was reported outbound on Tuesday & Wednesday!
