In Columbia Falls, Montana (.327 levergun)

Post by Scott Tschirhart »

There’s a company called Grizzly Custom Guns that does impressive work on Marlin leverguns.

https://www.grizzlycustom.com/

And they make the levergun that I have been begging Ruger to make.

I'd liike it better if they posted their prices for the "packages". I'm always suspect when folks try to hide the price of an item or service.

Hmmm, an 1894 in 45 ACP with a long barrel would be quiet...

Their web site is a bit of a mess. The home page says they are no longer taking custom orders as of 2021, and their Shop page says the 10 Auto and 45 ACP are no longer offered despite those being listed in the page of chamberings.

I get that. But with inflation going the way it is, posting prices might not work.

I’ll bet they aren’t cheap.

I wonder about this cartridge in a carbine. I can get 1500 fps in a Single Seven, I’ll bet that load would cook in a 16 inch barrel!

marlin made the model 1894 in 32 H&R. i have one and it is great. i checked and it will feed the 327 just perfectly., so all that is needed is to ream the chamber for the slightly longer 327. i got the reamer and head space gauge and my rifle is at the gunsmith right now, waiting for him to do the job. it would actually be easy to do yourself, but i am lazy and busy with other things [ mostly with grand kids ]

Cable,

I’m sure they did exactly that, just slightly lengthened the chamber.

Looks like the base gun might be a .22-caliber. Is that the case? I don't see a loading gate.

No, it’s a 94 Marlin but they made some of the .32 H&R guns with no loading gate.

That sounds cool. Post a range report when you get your hands on it...!

These are in scarce supply but a couple of minutes or less on an ammunition themed search engine found two available for around a grand.....

https://www.henryusa.com/caliber/327-fe ... ix-shooter,

If my memory serves, we here who bought ours from steve/nate paid around $700 with cost and shipping and ffl transfer fee and that was many years ago. Judging from the dates on the original posting it looks like jan. 2018. I think I remember a weather related shipping delay then a further delay due to the m.l.k. holiday before actually putting my hands on mine. That then cost ciphers to about $910 now at a cumulative 25% inflation but does not take into consideration politics & supply vs. demand

It looks like.327 Federal with 100 gr factory ammo is the rough equivalent of the.30 Carbine in a levergun.

I wonder how the 327 compares to the 110 Gr 357 from a carbine? It's not .30 any more, but same or similar weight bullets . . .

I thought that some of the newer "32-20" guns were really "308-20" instead of "312-20" or whatever...maybe including the Marlin 1894's they made for awhile....???

Here's a nice article on the Henry iteration - https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/201 ... h-carbine/ - I bought one a few years ago, and shot half a box of factory loads, bought 100 empty brass, and haven't had further time to mess with it. It didn't group well, and I was disappointed; I'd wanted a small-bore levergun that was pretty accurate (I almost got a Henry Long Ranger in 243 Win...!). I hope it will dial-in when I get a chance someday to reload for it though. Nonetheless, it is a nice little 'pair' for if I ever get a revolver in the 327 Fed.

However, right now I already have the Marlin 1894 in 32-20, and a Buckeye Special Blackhawk to pair up, so no real need to mess with anything else, as they both handle 'modern' loads. I thought about seeing if the Marlin could be bored to 32 H&R just so they'd both use that cartridge (the revolver has two cylinders), with it's stronger brass. However as long as I'm careful, I can reload the Starline 32-20 without much case loss.

My shooting partner bought a Henry Long Ranger in .243 a few years back. It never did shoot well despite our best efforts and he eventually sold it. That's saying a lot because he's a Henry aficionado, even has a Henry levergun in 410.

This seems to be a bit more gun than a .30 carbine. And it looks like they just rehabbed the existing .32H&R barrel.

It surprised me because it fees .32 Long, .32H&R and .327 Federal with no issues.
