LOTS of 'science fiction' becomes true, and so it is with 'political fiction' as well.
The good writers observe history and trends and technology and human nature, and can usually predict the kinds of things that might happen, just as a good home-security expert can predict what the weak links are in a person's home, or a good national-security expert can predict what the weak links are in immigration or other areas of national security.
'Political leaders' however, seem to seldom possess those skills, or if they do, they subordinate them to instead focus on short-term things that will enhance their power or wealth, or that of their friends.
