That’s by today’s massaged numbers. If you calculated it using real numbers we’re at 17% or so.

Scott, I know most of us here on the forum remember the Carter years... and how it took the whole decade of the 80's (and two terms of Ronald Reagan) to reverse the damage done by Carter and the Dem's in 4 short years. At work now, I'm one of only a few people in our business that was alive back in November 1991, the last time inflation was this bad. Was telling some of the youngsters how my first home loan interest rate in 1989 was 13% - and I was happy to get it!

Yeah, it is going to get worse.

I remember interest rates in the early 1980s when I went to buy my first pickup truck. Credit card interest rates were ridiculous. I'm afraid that we are going to see interest rates skyrocket to try to corral this inflation.

So do I. Back in 1979, when I first got a license, my first tank of gas was $3.25 a gallon and minimum wage was less than $1.40 an hour. Bidet is trying to make it as bad as Albert Gore, Senior got it for us while he and Armand Hammer were advising Jimmeh Cahwtuh.

Yes indeed. My mortgage in 1983 was 14.7%.

It appears that we are heading back to the good old days.

Only if you can get the cash together to put into them. My grandparents made good use of CDs in those days.

TRUE DAT. ButCept, in a seller's market, when interest rates are inviting us to pool cash somewhere, those two things fit.

for example, if someone collects copper, and copper gets into new highs when CDs are over 10%, that sounds like a win to me. sell the copper, pool the cash, and look for opportunity from there. a person could double their money in a couple of years if the inflation dragon lasts that long. hypothetically of course •

My house loan interest rate was 8.5% in 1995 , was suppose to be 9%, but was dropped because i was a first time home buyer. I refinanced twice everytime the interest rate dropped enough to make it worthwhile, I paid a twenty year loan off in 13 years. :D
