Growing up there was a track line on the back of our farm with a water station there, hadn’t thought about that for years. Steam engines daily.

About 20 years ago the Railroad brought a Big Steam engine down from Buffalo to Cleveland . caused quite a ruckus when it came thru the local towns. people lined the crossings and kids were awe struck. It was around for about a week. I was working out in the garden out back and to hear the whistle rolling across the farmland at the crossings was just crazy. whish they would bring it back again.

My son loved old steam locomotives when he was a kid. Probably inherited his old man's love of old stuff.
He had electric trains in the basement. We have one for his son now. I'm old haha.
There were many here, many narrow gage, used for logging back in the day. I think I posted it here before, but there are 2 full size locomotives sitting in the woods up by Chamberlain lake, heading into the Allagash. They completely disassembled them, brought them across the ice on Moosehead lake, and reassembled them at the site. They ran on a track just a few miles long, back and forth. When they had finished cutting the area, they just left them. You can get to them by snowmobile, but have to walk a ways if you take a Jeep or truck by logging roads.

Temperature crept up to 95 f in the afternoon, unusual to get that hot but not unknown. It's like the snow, some winters we get none other times we get 6 foot.

Nice view Fred... :D

Back to a more normal 75f with a few showers predicted....

As I posted on the general forum everywhere is tinder dry and the combines haven't cut the wheat yet, the paddocks have been cut but the hay has been left to rot
I'm using toilet paper for wadding in my 12 gauge muzzleloader so don't ask me how I know but it makes for a pretty dangerous fire risk...

I've set toilet paper on fire before. But it was with tacos, not black powder. :D

Couldn't resist.

8,000 ft here.
What is the elevation there?

Here is a temperature picture.

Friend was a hypno therapist. She did a past life regression on me one day. Part of it was a Roman soldier walking up the side of a hill and it was August and very hot. Always wondered does it get this hot in England.

They keep talking about record temperatures but I remember as a kid some summers were darn hot and nobody made a fuss, now schools have to close because the kids might get too hot.
I have walked up a few hills where Roman soldiers once walked, I can imagine that with all the armour and weapons it could get a bit sweaty in August... :D

8000 ft :o Kington is only about 1200 ft

Beautiful pics OS.
We made our third trip to Boothbay for the summer today.
Had a great day with lunch at our favorite place on the pier. Chowed on some fried shrimp, steamed clams, fries (chips for you, GK :D ), and cold beer. I snapped a pic of Kristy when she walked by this sign. She looks so disappointed. :D
Then it was off for our usual exploring. Went out to the point in East Boothbay where this little stone church is. Walked around on the rocks and snapped a few pictures. What a great day.
The old Jeep even made it home!

My wife and I were commenting on that today on the ride down there. It's amazing the varying country there is here in a relatively short distance. We are about 100 miles from the coast. It's a short hop to the mountains and the big woods.

And poof! He posts back in our old family thread.

See.......?
Great minds DO think alike.

Oh!
So you're sellin' Winchesters for a profit? Crazy!
Why don't nobody give me Winchesters for free? I did get a free Colt 1903 and a 20ga Parker.....
But I'm a real nice guy..... ..

Well, You Guys can have a big laugh at My expense...... ..... Fifty Years ago today I started My Job as an apprentice Meat Cutter. Big money $2.76 an hour. the retail store I started at sold 40+ cattle a week = 160 quarters of hanging beef. . countless boxes of chicken , pork , and you name it . We sliced and sold 800lb of beef liver every week, Perdue Chickens came in one time a week packed in wooden boxes in Ice. it was nothing to make 300lb of Italian sausage at a time . The amount of labor was terrific .Working conditions were beyond terrible , if You got a cut on your hand You could be in big trouble....there was NO sanitizer anywhere.... No safety equipment , no Human resource to go crying too . Some of the people I worked with were Hells Angles or had been in prison , one Guy had a huge scar on His face from being in a fight in a packing house , I was told to never bring it up...... You kept Your Head down, Mouth shut and hands moving ,.............. Thank You Lord. I Survived ............ :D .

You won't hear me laughing sir.
Fact is, you worked hard and earned every penny. Nothing but respect from this backwoods hick.

Much the same when I went to work over 34 years ago. I still work for the same company, but you'd never know it. Back then you pulled your weight and kept your mouth shut unless you were ready to back it up.
Now it's the age if the whiner and pansy.

Thanks OldWin...... "Now it's the age if the whiner and pansy."..... at My store where I still work one day a week they hired a middle aged Man who won't work on Sunday and now wants Saturday off as well. I worked My last full time 25 years doing, six days a week and now they hire a little candy azzs who will dictate when and how He will work. ....good for Him I'm not in charge.

Yup. Unfreakinbelievable. Now they can dictate because they know they can't find a replacement. They aren't worried about getting fired. Theres jobs everywhere. Nobody works anymore. Most cause they are useless....more and more because they see its getting them nowhere. They have figured out they work half the year for nothing due to confiscatory taxes from every direction. They have about killed this country.
