We did some work for a long time client. This guy is great, history buff, car guy, hunter & fisherman. Anyhow we did a couple things, one of which was measure existing skylights for replacement. Now here is a really nice great room with all kinds of old hunting, fishing stuff on the walls, an elk & deer heads. To top it all off a set of elephant tusks framing the fireplace. I said ' thats something you don't see every day ' - the lady of the house says ' my mother shot that elephant ' - these people are GREAT!! Being older, he has sold his guns ( without us knowing about it), he gave us a plastic tote full of ammo. Most of which none of us have. Im going to try and price it up and ill list it in classifieds.

What's in it Gunny? Take a pic.....ammo collecting...and pricing....is another of my qualities.......sometimes a little box of ammo from a manufacturer in a certain caliber with special variations can be worth a bundle......a small example would be full metal jacketed bullets for a 30-30 made back in the twenties....a box of 38-40 with 140 grainers going 2000.....(those sped over the screens at 1900)---00

Nothing that good Six but these might have some intriguing qualities

20210726_145720.jpg
The 1st pic, bottom right corner, those are rimfire large bore, all I had was my tape measure - I think they are 41 rimfire. 2nd pic , the match box has more .22 shotshells in it or they are more 22 BB caps..

Gunny,
Top pic, lower right.....the large rimfire looks like a 41 Swiss rimfire.....black powder........see the bullet is elongated as a rifle cartridge and not a short stubby handgun round? Looks like you have a hodgepodge of assorted loose rounds like 38 S&W and or 44 Russians.

Well none of these boxes are sealed, the 32s have some missing, the lesmoke 22s might all be there but box is toast. I figured I'd pull the bullets and toss em in the pot, burn off the powder. I'll have to measure those large rim fire for a better idea what they are. No, I don't think there is a 32-20 , I would have picked that up right away!

Over the years most of the guns I have owned could be called "junk" I have had a few expensive to me firearms but I have had a lot of fun with them all except a couple of lemons. Back when I worked on some of the most expensive shotguns for a living I never thought about actually owning one, I was more interested in Mossberg's etc. as they suited my kind of hunting and wallet. Yes if I had bought more wisely I would have a collection now that would be better than money in the Bank but for me though I just can't put a price on the happiness my old beat up junk guns have given me over the years. I don't look down on a Rossi or look up to a Winchester. I have had both and enjoyed every minute of shooting them but as to investments or works of art, well that's a very different story....
BTW while I was typing this I shot a Squirrel off my bird feeders with a single barrel Cooey .410 I bought for £60 quid.... :D

Yup, I get it but as we go through life we take chances especially if we can't get hold of the best at the time. We have probably all bought a lemon at sometime and also bought junk that lasted forever. When I bought a Rossi it was the best I could afford and I was darn sure it was not and never would be a real Winchester no more than I was Buffalo Bill.... anyway if you had the misfortune like me to be a Limey you'd grab anything that went bang while you could. :|

Fine stuff there Sixer, true collector’s items and I know you have some primo actual real Win 92’s; send me the best one old buddy, old pal. No need to let filthy mammon get in the way ;-) 32-20 is what I need. Would never ask you to part with that 25-20 contest winner.

Now gk, I almost never order guns because it has not worked out to my standards. So, when I wanted a 92, who was there for me? Why it was my fine friends at Rossi and mine have been fine but I chose them. Btw Win wasn’t even taking 92 orders and Since looking around all over the place since 1988 I have never seen one. Maybe Six and the eastern guys have them all.

I got mine for quite a bit less than the current going rate. If you want a Japchester it is going to run you over $1100 from what I see. I have only gone that high for a Dakota which I did make money on and a Colt SAA 4 3/4”.

Ironically I made the most on a deal selling a … drumroll please … Rossi ;-)

Just got tired typing, lot more fun stuff to say, later. Ah, the Pinto/Vega analogy, well maybe that could be right but what did a real Win go for back in the day and would they stand up to cowboy action shooting. As before, true collector’s items really have no place in this discussion … apples and gold Rolexes.

I was just B BUSTIN! I do believe the lesser quality guns have place but for people who can't afford or don't care enough to get the real thing...or for people who know they are gonna modify, abuse, wear out, or leave at the remote cabin, then why start with the best.

Rain over night. You get any Six?
I'm trying to remember, no I don't think the school had a 92, or for that matter a 73,86 or a 71. We did have a 94. Any gun that students worked on for learning( theory) were not allowed to ever be shot again. I was only in the vault 1 time, some awesome gun collection as far as numbers, mostly barrels full of Mauser 98s, a wall with a rack full of M1 Garands, for DMC matches.

Little reality check, all 92s available on the market are replicas. Winchester is no more. So if you want a 92 ;-) it will be a replica.

Some say Winchester actually ceased to exist after 1931. If you want one in modern pistol cartridges or even 45 Colt it will be a replica.

Handled one of the new 3" Colt King Cobra's yesterday. I really liked it. Fit, finish, and quality seemed pretty good. It's an excellent size for a carry gun and still fit the hand well. I liked it better than my 2.5" round butt model 19.
I was very tempted.

I handled one of the new Pythons a while back too. It was a 6", which I'm not crazy about, but I was quite impressed with it.
That is saying a lot, because I have NEVER been a Colt double action guy. I find I actually prefer these new ones over the the older ones.
I have been considering selling a NIB Detective Special and my 2.5" model 19 to fund these 2 revolvers. I will probably wait a bit, however. Insanity is running high.

OW, I'm glad you are waiting before you sell ANYTHING, my mistake has always been selling guns I don't use only to find a use for them as soon as they are gone..
I guess I will not have a opportunity to handle the new Colts, hard enough for me to get my mits on the old ones.. :(

Well, now is the time to sell stuff. Prices are stupid. I wouldn't miss these 2 too much. The Colt is unfired, so I don't use it anyway. The Smith is quite minty. I do carry and shoot it a little, however. I would feel this one a bit more. I could also easily double my money on it. Considerably more than double on the Colt.
