.30-40 Krag die set

Post by Scott Tschirhart »

I've been looking everywhere and cannot seem to find a set of .30-40 Krag dies.

Even Lee dies are nowhere to be found.

If you have a set, or can point me to where they can be purchased, I would appreciate it.

Scott, just last night Grafs had a set in their "just arrived" section. Redding, if I recall correctly. Yep, it's a Redding Three Die set.

They also have Captech Brass and Graf Brass in 30-40 as well as an RCBS Shell holder

I've been jonesing for a 30-40 ever since reading of Roosevelt's use of one in Africa (Winchester 1895). And now I'm reading Townsend Whelen's "The American Rifle" book. He has a lot of good to say about this caliber in the Winchester 1885 Singleshot (although he just calls it "The Winchester single shot"). Years back I passed on a sporterized Krag in this caliber, before I knew what it was for sure. It was intriguing and only $75.00. But we had young kids at the time and they liked to eat regular like.

Thanks Paul. $130 for a die set is more than I want to pay. (DANG!)

I think I will keep looking for one of the Lee sets that has the Factory Crimp Die in it.

I'm dreaming of loading cast 220 gr round nose bullets in a 95.;-)

Scott,
I must have 150 sets of dies around here and many are NIB. People come to me for buy outs.

Anyway, just went out in the barn and looked in the box of about 50 sets and there is a box of 30-40's that look crispy new to me.

$50......shipped

Got a couple of 1895's in 30-40 also....I'm keeping one and moving the other sometime this year or when I feel like fooling with it.

SOLD! Send me a dm with an address and I'll get payment out to you right away.

Thank you!

I found and bought a Lee Factory Crimp Die, but I cannot seem to find the proper shell holder!

Glad Six was able to get you fixed up. Grafs has the shell holder, I linked it up above. Redding dies are expensive, but that's about what some sets of Lee dies are going for on fleabay - yoiks!! Can't believe how things have gone in the past year. Sure didn't see this coming, just wish I'd put a few more primers aside last time north.
