My "New" Marlin 39a Mountie. Now w/ Range report

Post by meanc »

Got this last Sunday from a not too local seller. He lived about 75 miles away.

Anyway, it was made in 1957, and aside from the few nicks on the stock, this thing is practically like new.

It has fed and fired everything I've put through it so far. Aguila Colibri, CCI Stingers, Velocitors, mini mags, winchester super x.

I'm guessing I've already put about 500 rounds thru it.

Haven't had a chance to shoot past 25yds yet. But with open sights and off the hood of my jeep I can put about 90% of the shots into the size of a quarter.

Now I've got the Henry H001Y 22lr, Winchester 9422, and Marlin 39a.

Aint life grand.

You've got:

... a carrying handle on the Winchester,

... a carry strap on the Henry,

... Whatcha gonna put on the Marlin???

Just teasing you. You've got a nice collection of .22 lever guns there.
Got the bases covered I'd say.

Looks like they're quite similar in appearance, with similar length barrels, and straight grip stocks. Nice collection of .22 levers.

Got out to the field today with a few targets and a couple hundred CCI Stingers. Since I only have open sights I figured it was going to take a bit of shooting.

I stepped off 50yds and put up a 2ft x 2ft cardboard with four 2.5" flourescent sticky notes.

Fired 5 shots at the first target and was about 2" high, but centered with a little more than a 2" group.

Lowered the rear sight and made a little better rest for myself.

Fired 5 more shots... still about an inch high... but centered and about 2" group.

Lowered the elevator 2 more notches...Fired the last 4 shots in the magtube...

All dead center of the sticky note in a 1" group with 3 of them touching one of the four made up the difference though

Packed everything up and went home.

14 shots with no windage adjustments and open sights for dead center accuracy. That little lever is impressive.
