Now on to load development.

I cold blued the barrel, refinished the stock, added a recoil pad and threw away the military steel buttplate.

Nice work Jim, the word "Robust" comes to mind, I have used a Mosin Nagant at the range and they certainly deserve their reputation 8)

What lumber do think it is Jim?
Is there a close up of the rear sight, I'm intrigued.

Looks pretty slick. Perfect little knock about carbine in a more than capable cartridge.

Make sure to take a fire extinguisher along, the fireball from that little bugger could set the range on fire. :D

I have no idea on the wood Nath. It is dense and heavy. The stock will make a nice oar if you need it .. or a good club if you need that.

Nath, most of the Mosin stocks were made of arctic birch, with a small portion made of beech. The ones made by Remington and New England Westinghouse were walnut.

Thanks Bill 👍🏻.
Artic birch has to be far more dense than the stuff around growing me.

Bill .. Nath .. I don't know that this will help .. but here is the end I cut off the Mosin stock so I could mount the recoil pad. I don't know much about different woods and have no clue what this is .. but it is heavy!
