30wcf plinking.

Post by Nath »

Thought I would up my small game load in my 30wcf today from 14.5gns of A2400 to 15gn.

Glad I did. Shoots a little tighter.

I shot three at concrete with a stone set in it smaller than a rabbits head at 50yds. First shot hit it and the next two landed on that splash.

The previous load I felt was a touch erratic and it showed on similar targets as in more flyers.

Next I went to a ploughed field in a valley and plinked to 400 yards.

400 was pushing it but 200 & 300 was straight forward enough. No rabbit wants to be giving me rude gestures put it that way!

It was fun and confidence building, I wish I had brought a few full power ammo now just to compare.

For a 56year old rifle it certainly shoots good and is easy to carry all day. Its like shooting a BB gun off hand too.

Short video.

Nice shooting Nath, the dumbest thing I ever did was to sell my 94 in .30/30.... glad to see you putting yours to all-round good use...

Thank you.
I'm on the hunt for unwanted .308 bullets where ever I go. Sometimes come across hand ins at stores like half a box of etc etc.

When the A2400 eventually runs out I don't know what to replace it with should none be available.
That's a headache for another day though..

Very nice. I truly enjoy shooing a .30-30.

The funny thing is that I have been shooting this cartridge since I was a boy and I never have loaded for it.

Run of the mill ammunition is not to hard to purchase in the UK all be it expensive now.
30/30 was always a "fringe" calibre over here.
To have fun we have to reload. Besides, beats TV!
Thanks Scott.

Fantastic!
I really could easily get by the rest of my life with nothing but a 30-30.
This kind of reminded me....I have a ton of the old Hornady 110gr half jacket bullets. I've been meaning to drop them over a little Unique and see how they do.

Or ship them to an old friend maybe 😉.

Haha you called it Nath! You got first dibs if I get sick of em. :D
I'm mildly concerned they will destroy small game. May end up using FMJ 30 carbine bullets.

Enjoy that 30-30 Nath!

Nice to go out for a walk with a rifle and just plink. After seeing this I think I will take the 348 for a walk and do some myself....will be mostly dry fire practice but I may send a few...
