45-70 heavy squib loads

Post by kenaikidd »

Good Morning all, I'm currently playin with a heavy hollow point mold from CBE .458 and 687gr. in a 16" thompson i'm using 10.5 grs of green dot, quite accurate to 60 yards don't know the velocity but probably around 800 to 900 fps maybe. Lookin to try some other powders for some higher velocity maybe 3031 or r-7. Got any ideas.
Take care K.K

My 45/70 Marlin shoots Rem 405 gr accurately and about equally with Rel7 or H322.

With a heavy bullet like yours I would sure try a slower powder like 4227 or even IMR4198. Good luck.

I’d contact CBE for suggestions. They will probably need your OAL with that bullet in order to provide guidance.
