New rifle. Not a levergun.

Post by piller »

Just picked up a .30-06 Remington 741 Wingmaster at a pawn shop near work. Will post pictures after I get it home. $600 out the door. I couldn't resist. PillHer was there. She approved.

I got this one back around may, also for $600 at a local PS. It's a Mod 742, not sure the difference, cosmetics I'd say? I've not shot it at long range, but it's a great deer rifle within reasonable ranges!

I am not sure what to hunt with it, but wild pigs should be fun. I plan to get a couple of extra magazines for it. They lock in tight, but it should be useful to have extra.

Mine is a 742 carbine also in 30-06. Very cool and handy rifle.

Not many deer around here that big. I have used 30-06 on Red Stag once in Poland, and it was plenty. That was a Rem 700 30-06 using 180 grain Nosler Partitions. I have not hunted anything too big for that cartridge. I am looking forward to trying it.

Great kill pic Flint! In my younger days deer hunting around here, 70s-80's, I bumped into a lotta hunters carrying either the Auto version or the pump action version of those Remingtons, several different model numbers for them thru the years.

When I was growing up here in south Arkansas and north Louisiana almost everyone hunted with a 742 30-06 or a lever action 30-30.
