Predator hunting.

Post by Nath »

Ever looking for fox's on my turf I found sign of a fox and went on to spot it a couple of nights ago.
So tonight I set up and waited.
The vixen turned up first around 300yds away but it was to far for the 17 and to light for me to move in. I had to wait for darkness to fall and then move in using night vision.
As I got to 100plus yards she had been joined by her mate.
Shot #1 was across the vixens shoulders. Her demise was quick. I lost the dog fox for a while but then found him at a later paced 175 paces.
I aimed on top of his back as he stopped to look back.
The shot made no terminal noise I could detect but he leppt in the air and run towards me for ten yards and piled up dead!
I loosed Jess to go find them which she did.
Not a bad night's work for Jess, me and the 17 HMR.

Awesome work :D

Is there any market for the furs there? Or do you skin them and make something from the pelts ?

Always love to go along on your adventures !

We have a growing population of red fox in my area. They started as a single group in a local park. Can’t hunt or trap them there.

They have grown in numbers and are competing with the coyotes. In my immediate area I have seriously reduced the coyote population. The foxes have shown up.

I haven’t trapped any yet and the rules are different. So once I do start seeing them in traps some decisions will need to be made.

I don't have an outlet for furs. I'm afraid there are that many they are just worm food.
I'm not talented enough to use them myself.
Shame I I know.
They just eat everything and the balance of nature gets lost. It's basically conservation work and livestock protection.

Love predator hunting, on every continent. Much more fun that herbivores, as predators seem to be much more wary.

Good shooting sir! I have shot a few foxes and yours seem much larger than the ones we have in New England. I never remember them in our sheep .But the chickens paid heavy if they were around. Has a boy I saw a fox by the hen house so grabbed my Stevens 20 ga single shot and the only shell I had and tried to cut her off. I saw her jumping in the hay field and swung and fired. She ran on but I heard squealing and found a pup in the hay. I felt real bad but my dad said she's teaching them to steal chickens you did good, and a new box of shells showed up for my 20 ga.

Nice job,

but like edinCT said, those red foxes look much bigger than the foxes we have over here. I think our red foxes are only like 10lbs.
