308 to 300 Savage

Post by Woodsloafer2 »

Anyone here make 300 Savage brass from 308's. Just tried it and it is pretty easy and they seem to come out ok. I bought a lot of 400 surplus 7.62 x 51 ammo a while back that I have used up but saved the brass. Swaged the primer pockets and loaded some up for the 308's. those shoot just fine. Plenty left though. Think I will make up some 300's. anyone ever done this and encountered any issues??

Zero issues with once fired Winchester 308 brass.

I have plenty of .300 savage factory ammo and brass but, I turn any range pick up 30/06 brass into 7.65x53 Mauser.
I once outsmarted myself by resizing 7mm Mauser brass, failing to take into account body taper, I ended up with mostly shoulder splits.

That's about all I use in my .300 and .358.

Never having done it myself, you might run into problems 'cause the mil brass is thicker than commercial stuff. Just saying.
