Once you tie them you can visualize the end goal and they become second nature.

But I agree these three are the basic ones I use most.

I used this video to teach my grandsons how to tie the bowline and the truckers knot ...

the best thing about a good knot is how easy it is to UNTIE when you are done with it.

I watched Nick Walinda as he was setting up for a high wire walk at the Hard Rock Casino in Tampa. As he was setting his rigging he kept tying and tying knot after knot, he smiled and looked at the camera and said if you can't tie good make sure you tie a lot. He's about as professional as they come.

Useful, but not the end all be all of knots. You'd be amazed at what a simple clove hitch or half hitch can do. And as to the line from tree to tree, he could have just tied a bowline on a bight and a trucker's hitch. But why do thing simple when you can make it complicated and impress the unknowledgeable.
