Travelling with firearms in the U.S. isn't that easy...

.
...unless you just drive yourself in a vehicle or motorhome... :|

Even by TRAIN it now sounds like a bureaucratic mess... :|

Back in the good-old-days I just kept my handgun on my person, and an ammo-can of magazines and extra rounds in my carry-on.

I wonder how often they lose people's firearms.

Yes because we all know how often trains have been hijacked to Cuba.

In 1961 I was 15 years old. I got on a Greyhound bus in Phoenix, Arizona and traveled to Seattle, Washington. I had a small suitcase with clothes that I checked and a briefcase that I kept with me. In the briefcase was a Colt 1911 .45 ACP and 200 rounds of ammo ... plus a Ruger Blackhawk .357 Magnum and 300 rounds of ammo.

These days I probably would be considered a terrorist.

At Seattle my Uncle met me. A couple days later we got in his Piper J3 and flew over the mountains to Eastern Washington and visited relatives. We would fly to their ranches, land on the road and taxi into the driveway and park. We stayed in Ritzville with relatives, tying the airplane down at the airport.

During that time we shot up all my ammo so the bus ride back to Phoenix was lighter.

If you don't ask, I won't tell! But... there's NO federal regulation against carrying a firearm in a commercial vehicle. But, I don't let that stop me!

The best way is to drive if your bringing a few guns and lots of ammo. Even then, everything needs to be locked up separately (guns and ammo) and I recommend you cover all of it in a blanket if someone can look into the vehicle like an SUV. Flying is not too horrible, with some preparation it can be done, but very limited on how much ammo you can bring. -Tutt
