Arsenal 313115

Post by High Desert Hunter »

New bullet tested today, powder coated version over 2400 for an average of 1682fps stopped in the 4th jug of water, non-coated bullet sailed through 4 jugs on 4 grains of Unique, and was not recovered.

Just did a web search for that but came up with not much on this projectile. Could you elaborate?

Looks like a very nice pellet, kinda like Lyman's 311008 and RCBSs old 122gr GC bullets, both of which I have. What alloy did you mold it of?

Straight wheel weights, they pretty much weigh 115 right on the money.

this is interesting. what was the velocity of the Unique shot? if it was lower it might not have deformed enough to stop

The Unique load was trucking along at 1200fps, plus, they were uncoated, so they didn't endure the 20 minutes at 400* session.

I get that, but i'm thinking the difference in penetration is attributable to the velocity rather than or in addition to the coating...

just saying, raw guess.

thanks for your info and your comparisons and observations . . . .

Oh, the almost 500fps increase in velocity is at least 90% of why it expanded so well and stopped in the 4th jug. The complete destruction of the first jug by the coated bullet and increased velocity was impressive, that load would hammer a coyote. The other bullet really just hole punched the jugs, it split the first one, but the exit on the 4th looked the same as the entrance on the 1st.

That's a handsome and very useful-looking mold, HDH. I must have missed it, but what firearm in what caliber??
