Good old green dot.

Post by Nath »

Decided to use some of my old shotgun loading components, they've been sitting around for a decade or more.
I just dumped 22gns in a primed Hull, rammed some nitro cards and fibre wad and then dropped an ounce of 7narfs on top.
The Franchi gobbled them up easy.
Got some varmints done on my circular walk.
Good time of year, seeing migrating birds arrive for another year is always refreshing and then there are the flowers blooming everywhere too.
Marsh marigolds.

Sounds fun. Despite the discussion about narf meaning one-half, it still strikes me as funny.

Green Dot was always my favorite for trap and light to moderate field loads. Noticeably milder recoil than Red Dot.

Yeah, tried red dot in my 20's and was very disappointed, by the time it starts to work pressure is getting up there!

I use Green Dot in the 9mm .. the 38 Special ... .357 Magnum ... .44 Special ... .45 ACP and .45 Colt. It works well in all those calibers.

As I type this my MEC 9000 12 gauge press is bolted on the bench in front of me and I’ve been loading 1 1/8 ounce of 7 1/2’s pushed with Green Dot . Got maybe 1,200 more to do before I’ve caught up the empty 12 hulls . Then on to 600 JR’s for the 10 gauge and 8 gauge .

I've never played with GreenDot. Went straight from 700X to RedDot... The Scotsman in me looking for economy! :D And a cleaner burn. That's been over 35 years ago... and I don't know if I obtained that cleaner load...

Found 6.1 of Red dot to be a good load. Corrected the point of aim in each group after the first shot.

I started loading 12 gauge forty years ago with WIN AA452 , that was phased out and I switched to WIN WSL and WST for the 12 gauge . When I restarted loading I used SR7625 for everything from the 10 to the 20 and when that powder was phased out I use what I’ve got left for 10 gauge and buckshot loads . Now I have a BIG supply of Green Dot , Red Dot and Unique that I can use in the 12 if pressed . Also have a dozen pounds of WIN Super Handicap I’ve never tried before but I suspect it’ll make fair to middling 1 1/8 ounce 12 gauge loads .

For a clean burn you can't beat Hodgson clays.
Might not pass the Scotsmen test though!

I have had trouble with small charges of Clays metering inconsistently.

I'm loading on a MEC 600 Jr... According to my reduced load calculator, in order to match the 980 fps of the Winchester LN/LR loads I need 12.3 grains of clays. According to my MEC bushing chart, that's a #22 bushing.
