Evidence of Poor Training.
You always carry the light in the off hand.
That way you can toss it onto the target seriously illuminate it!

If you are shooting black powder, you may have to re-light your lantern.

In the old west, this was a problem with a discharge in a confined space such as some bars that were built with low ceilings and were narrow.
