How did you celebrate Gun Appreciation Day...?

Post by AJMD429 »

.
Since it was > Gun Appreciation Day < ( according to NPR no less :o )

44MagHunter and I shot 22LR, 9mm, & 223 at our backyard range.

We somewhat rationed ammo, so only shot around 50 rounds each of 22LR, 9mm, & 223, but when you are more focused you probably learn more anyway.

My take home lesson was that the sling on my AR is NOT set up right...!

I pulled the bullets on a dozen 44 Russian ammo from around 1910 and put new primers in and put the original charge of 4.6 grains of Bullseye back in....gonna test & chrono em tomorrow out of a single action Colt.......I tried the old primers afterwards in a 44 Spl and they all fired but are mercuric.

I never knew about such a day.

Yesterday and today shot 200 .22 from Winchester mod 290 and Remington model 34. Shot eggs, swinging bowling pins, plow gongs, sticks in the tank. At 2 o'clock today the first N wind hit the farm as I was loading up to leave. My son on a 2 hr walk saw a nice bodied 8 or 10 pt. Did not get around to shooting the pre model 27 due to spending to much time clearing roads. Next time. Glad I was shooting on Gun Day 8)

Put some new handles on my .327 SP101. Much, much better.

I thought everyday was gun appreciation day.....I only fired one shot out of my SxS .410 and sent a fat rat to meet it's maker.

I guess a number of us old fellers were "appreciating" without knowing it was official -- we had a "work party" at our local range and did a bunch of maintenance stuff. After raking up debris around the meeting room building I put new velcro on the long-range buffalo for holding the "hit-detect " lights (you might be surprised how hard it is to hear a hit on steel a thousand yards away when the wind is blowing wrong). Stopped on the way home and popped some tin cans with the 45. Dang, every now and then I forget what a pia it is too look for brass in the dirt and have to use the auto instead of my more usual revolvers to remind myself why I love my wheel guns. Little popper shoots good but does fling brass in several different directions.

I celebrated early by going to a "Wild Bunch" match on Sunday! I shot one of my 1911s (Phillipines), 1897 (Chinese), Lightning (Italian) and capped it off with my M-1 & 1903A3 (both US), making it an international event! Nothing broke, and everything except the M-1 cycled properly, (and I'm blaming my ammo for that\)!

Six... I'm guessin' we didn't know about it because we don't listen to NPR! :P :P
