On The Range Today

Post by JimT »

with my Model 94 Trapper .30-30 ...

Wind was pretty stiff, coming from about 1 o'clock on my position. Heavy gusts.

I am not making excuses .. just letting you know ... well .. maybe I am

I was shooting 50 yards, resting the barrel. The loads were a Sierra 125 gr. JHP over 32.5 gr. of H322 with a Winchester Large Rifle primer.

The target on the bottom right is 4 shots. The 5th shot went off into the wild blue yonder .. about 11 o'clock on the target .. maybe an inch out. Had to be the wind.

They do ok .. but I seem to get better accuracy with the 130 gr. Speer Hot-Cor and the heavier bullets.

50 Yards 170 gr. Sierra

125 sierra JHP is my favorite ever lever killer. Probably killed 30- 40 deer with it through 26" barrel.

My Dad used them in his Marlin. I watched him put down 2 deer with 1 shot each at close to 200 yards once. They worked well.

I love my Winchester 94 Trapper. Great gun and I've carried it more miles than I care to remember.

Cool carbine! How can you not love em? :D
All them targets look dead to me. I keep meaning to try some of the 125-130gr bullets in my trappers. Never seem to get to it.
I think I have 12 or 13 30-30s. I've always loved the cartridge, but the older I get, the more I appreciate it's fantastic utility.
"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.

We are supposed to have a high of 37 on Thursday.
Here we measure the severity of the winter by how often we have to run the air conditioner.
