Fog lights

Post by Tycer »

I was taught that dog lights should project an amber, narrow horizontal beam close to the road and be used in lieu of headlights. I’ve driven in dense fog many times with lights just like that.
Both my newer vehicles have white fog lights that will not come on without the main lights. I do not consider them fog lights.
Kind regards,
Tycer

I'm with you on the yellow fog lights, they are far more effective than white but try to find a set today and I wouldn't be surprised to find they were illegal. The fog lights on all the cars today will not work with high beam and here in VA it's illegal to have them on at the same time as high beams. I had added white "fog" lights to some of my older vehicles in the long ago past and they were wired to a switch so that I could leave them on with high beams if I wish and they work very well as fill in lights up close specially on narrow back roads with little or no shoulder and abounding wildlife. Back in the days of single and 4 headlight systems I have wired a switch to the low beams such that they would stay on along with the hi beams and it made quite a difference.
