The Great Divorce

Post by wvfarrier »

What an incredible statement by CS Lewis in The Great Divorce.

There are only two kinds of people in the end.

Those who say to GOD "THY will be done".

And those to whom GOD says "Thy will be done".

The Implications are scary!!!

It could be that hell is what we make it.
There is nothing that can separate us from the Love of God.
No created thing can separate us.
We are created so we cannot do it.
Hell cannot.
Death cannot.
Nothing present, nothing future can separate us from His Love.
But if we resist the Love of God it could be that would be hell to us.
Since there is no place that God is not, we cannot escape His Love even in hell.
David said "If I make my bed in hell, you are there!"
And if we are resisting His Love, what torment that would be.
He does not torment people since He is Love.
But the results of rejecting and resisting Him would torment.
His Love is a Consuming Fire.
It burns everything that is not Him.
The further we are from Him the more it burns.
The closer we are the more it cleanses.
As George MacDonald said, "If we truly understood Who He is we would run to him and say Burn out of me everything that keeps me from being fully human and fully alive."

Great reply, Jim. You said in 18 brief sentences just about all there is that is important -- and you even snuck in some George MacDonald. 8)

I went to a small country Baptist church yesterday for the first time, and it was like going home again.
Jim, your message today is exactly what was said yesterday by Pastor. Hell is having zero God.
I want to continue my attendance there.
