I had not heard of it, and am not sure I grasp all the details, but it looks fascinating.

That is very intriguing! Might work real well in a motorcycle too. -Tutt

Cute, but that combustion and expansion chamber has to lose a lot of heat, just like a Wankel.
Re: Now here is an ingenious engine
Call me a skeptic but I heard all those attributes when the Wankle came out.

Re: Now here is an ingenious engine
The real questions will be longevity, and how well it maintains proper clearances for wear. The Wankel made big HP, but it was not an economical engine as far as mileage goes. And of course they didn't last long, even though their performance in all sorts of racing was very impressive.

Re: Now here is an ingenious engine
The Mazda Wankel engines made very poor TQ production, generally half the HP number in TQ. This one makes equal amounts TQ and HP (actually 10 lbs more TQ) and redlines at 25K I believe I read. But it also idles at 1K. Pretty astonishing. If it can't get decent gas mileage, at least in a car, its a non starter. It could be quite revolutionary in a motorcycle with such an insane power to weight ratio in a small package. Motorcycles don't have the same EPA standards for gas mileage but they do have to be exceptionally clean burning to Euro 5 standards for compliance. Maybe not in a car, but in many other uses, this engine could be quite remarkable. One engine weighs 35 lbs. Thirty five pounds! And produces 160 HP and 170 TQ. A Coyote 5 liter Mustang engine, as of this year, makes about 440 HP I think, and weighs @ 450 lbs. My 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 Liter Hemi makes 360/390 but most trucks make @ 390/400 but weigh 550 lbs with aluminum heads and a plastic intake manifold from the same year. So two of these prototype engines would weigh 70 lbs, and make 320 HP. Three of them would make 480 HP, even more TQ and hydrogen fueling would yield almost zero emissions.
Worth a look at!
