New guy here......

Post by leverman44 »

Hi from Va. ! Own several Henry and Uberti leverguns and look forward to gathering and sharing information about them.

My latest addition to the collection is a Uberti 1873 Carbine chambered in .44 Magnum. Have searched and found little info. on them and no reviews on how well they shoot or have held up with 44 Mag ammo.
I found this one used but in excellent condition and got a decent deal on it. I load for .44 Mag and Special and have so far had good target results with 200 gr. RNFP plated bullets I had loaded with 9.5 Unique in Magnum brass.
Have shot 44 Special with same weight bullets and it eats those nice and smooth.

I have a Henry 44 Mag Carbine for the heavy 44 Mag loads and will focus on 44 Special loads and mild Mag loads in Magnum brass for this 1873. Found a thread here from 2014 discussing this 1873 Carbine but there were no firsthand
reports mentioned in the use of it and hopefully since then maybe some here have had their hands on one. If so would love to hear shooting stories and what loads you have used.

Thanks!

Welcome to the fire.
While I have no first hand experience with the 44 mag in a 73, I have some with originals. Also with 44mag rifle loads.
I would say you won't hurt your 73 at those levels. I find there is no real need to push the 44 magnum that hard out of a rifle. A 44-40 with a 200gr slug does just fine around 1300fps, so....... :D
"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.
