I'd best make an appointment to get this 11 year old IMac switched out.

LOL After I did the latest OS update, it's been really bad. Probably need more RAM, but I'm not going to spend that kind of Mac Money on a machine this old.

You know PC RAM will work on a Mac.
PCs use a 9th parity bit and Macs just ignore it.
No need to spend Mac money when PC prices will do :D

I'll tuck that in my vest pocket...thanks for the info.... 8)
This is what is in mine:Your Mac contains 4 memory slots, each of which accepts
a 1333 MHz DDR3 memory module.
And I'm only using two of them....
If it's not plug and play, I'd have no idea what's what....

SO the slots are the same? do all the memory units have to be the same size? or can they be mixed and matched in the mac?

i am a total mac know nada but i'm curious because Blaine didn't mention the capacity of his memory . . . and it seems that the usual and customary deal with pcs is to include two smaller units, say 10MB, which limits the total to 40 unless you pull the smaller and go to 4 same-size.

is that what Apple does?

thanks

I have no idea...I have two slots that are filled for a total of 8 microjiggers, and two empty.
I'm going to make an appointment at the Apple Store to get a new IMac, and bring the old one to transfer the important stuff. *shudder* *grimace*

It's best to use RAM in matched pairs.

i'm still not getting it. does this mean Blaine could add a pair of 256mb to the empty slots and retain the smaller pair on board? thanks.

Yes, and all four ports/slots should be the same....

This is what I get when booting up....The desktop is sloooow to populate, and most programs won't work properly for 15 minutes or so. A preview of the pics may, or may not eventually appear.
