XS Sight on an 1892 Clone

Post by Scrumbag »

Well folks,

Finally got an XS sight and it is on it's way to a gunsmith to be fitted.

A peep sight, in the right place.

.

Here's a bunch of aperture ('peep') sights I have used and liked. I prefer them far and away better than 'open' sights, even moreso as I age. The Marbles Bullseye is the 'fastest' to acquire, but is only adjustable by 'drifting' whereas the more precisely adjustable ones are not as fast or easy to use in bad lighting conditions. Tradeoffs.....I guess good reasons to own more than one gun/sight setup.... :D

I do find them better than any "notch and post" arrangement.

Have a cocking piece sight on my old FN Commercial in 9.3x62. Surprisingly accurate.

Those XS sights are great. I have one on a 94AE Trapper in 44. I wish I could put them on all my Winchesters without drilling them. They give a fantastic sight picture.

Looks great. Excellent foul weather carbine right there. The 44 out of a carbine is hard to beat.

Thanks. Hoping 240gr Nosler JSP will do the business for terminal performance.

I use the 240 Hornady XTP with great results. I load it over 24.3gr. IMR4227.

Nice one. I use ~21.5gr of N110 and sees to work.

I tried H110 but got very dirty / inconsistent burn. Really need a magnum primer for H110. Also here in the UK Viht powders (including N110) aren't that hard to find (unlike Hodgdon H110) and also N110 works with a regular large pistol primer.

(I have now found Fed 155 mag primers so might try H110 again as still have a fair bit).

Yeah it definitely likes warmer loads with H110.
IMR4227 doesn't burn real clean either, but I've got good resin spite of it. Especially across both handgun and rifle. I have multiple 44s, with rifles in 16 and 20 inch, and handguns with 3, 6 and 7.5 inch barrels. The 240 XTP with the 4227 seems to work well across all these guns.

Ah, that must help with the ammo organisation!

Haha every little bit helps. I try and consolidate when I can as I load for a lot of different cartridges.
That's why I use a lot of Unique haha.

Ah, I use Unique for plinking 44 mag and 44 special loads with 240gr cast lead RNFP. Must admit, shoots fine but hate handling.

Yup. Me too! I use a lot of it for handgun and cast loads. It's a great powder.
Much of my handgun ammo I load on a Dillon 550B. I switched a lot of those to plated to save my lead. They work pretty well.

Had good luck with these. I have the 3 sizes fitted into the bottom of the stock. I have these on 2 rifles. My BLR also uses a smaller diameter fiber optic front sight. I'm guessing its 1/16th, not 3/32nds diameter. The 2 sights together are very precise.
