Big Weekend Approaches !

Post by 6pt-sika »

Saturday a friend and I are scheduled to attend a tower shoot for Pheasents and Red Leg Partridge in West Virginia . Sunday he and I are scheduled for a tower shoot in Baltimore County Maryland for RIngneck Pheasents and Mallards . Then to top it off the same friend along with two more friends and myself are going quail hunting in the Richmond Virginia area the following Tuesday . Deer are certainly taking the back seat this year . Saturday I’m going to shoot a Parker DH 10 gauge , Sunday the plan is to use my little Parker DHE 20 gauge for the ducks and Pheasents , after the tower on Sunday we’re going to do a walk up for more Pheasents that weren’t hit and I’m vascillating between the DHE 20 gauge and my Parker VH 28 gauge . And on Tuesday for quail a pair of Parker’s will go a VHE 12 gauge skeet and my VH 28 gauge . May even bring along the DHE 20 Tuesday as I shoot the gun quite well but it isn’t the same as using the little 28 .

I initially had intentions of taking a sporting clays cart to WVA and bring an 8 gauge and another gun , but I got over that idea . Lugging one gun and 50-75 shells at a time is plenty .

Another reason I like the 28 ga, dump 2 boxes in each pocket - shoot the whole course with what ya carry. Of course I don't have an 8 bore

An 8 gauge falls into the same category as some of those weird a..s..s European drilling cartridges that I’ve gone to the trouble to cobble up brass for , you really have to wanna do it because it can be a real PITA !

Kinda my thoughts when I almost bid on a single barrel side hammer Jones Underlever 4 gauge that was at the Easton auction where the most recent 8 gauge was acquired . Even acquiring loading tools cases etc would be a lot of trouble I still kinda wish I’d bid on the 4 bore gun
