40-65 Bullard And Mule Deer

Post by Shrapnel »

I finally got a deer with the 40-65 Bullard. It wasn't a trophy by any means, but I had a doe tag for mule deer and got this one with one shot at 120 yards right through the heart...

Nice. It's great to do it with a beautiful old gun like that! Well done.

A fine looking rifle, congratulations on the Mule deer. Looks like a good choice of camo for the terrain too.

Nice going. Nice to see another Bullard in the group. Mine could be a twin except mine has a pistol grip. Have you got the Bullard books? I hope to shoot a Buffalo with mine (40-75-260) this winter. Is yours a true 40-65 or 40-75 ?

It is 28 inches. I think it looks so long due to the thinness of the action making it look so slender. Here it is compared to my son's 1886 45-70 with a 26 inch barrel...

Very nice! Wish we had any deer season this late! Even our doe season is mid October.

It appears the fore stock overlaps the action, unlike most leverguns. Interesting design. I remember looking up the patent drawings for it, but that was many years ago and I don't recall the details. I seem to recall the single shot and repeater were similar.

edit: Here's more on the Bullard.
