Savage 99 rare caliber?

Post by greenbay357 »

Hello, I was looking to get some information from the Savage collectors/experts on a Savage 99C Series A .22-250 Rem. The serial number dates it to 1978. Overall the rifle is in good condition with what I would call "honest wear" the rear sight is missing, which isn't a big deal as I will be mounting a scope on it for upcoming coyote season. How rare of a caliber is this? Thanks

I don’t think it is that rare. I remember them being catalog items through much of the 80s. Probably way before

^^^^ Thanks 44shooter, there is one for sale on gun broker right now for the "buy it now" price of $3495 and seller makes it sound like a one of a kind, so that's why I was wondering if they were super rare or not..

Hi & Wecome!!

yea on GB you can say what you want & ask any price you want, they are a rare gun along with the 284 & 7mm 08
in that model, if a 308 is 800 bucks in that model then the rarer ones will be 2 times the money in the
real world, seems like they made a 250 -3000 in that model? for whats it worth i have only seen 2 in
the 22-250 in 50 years of watching out for & buying & selling unique Savage Lever guns

My brother in law has a take down lightweight in .250 Savage that his dad got back in the 50's. He had stopped to change a flat for a woman one night and she gave it to him, new and in the box.

Wow, even with the fancy machine pressed checkering.

Of the 99Cs, the the 7mm-08 is the least seen, followed by the 284 Win and 22-250. It is the only Savage model 99 that was chambered in 22.-250. But, IMO, that price is crazy high. Much harder to find than the 308 and 243, but I would not call it rare.

There's a seat for every azz in this country.......so that means the owner is "fishing" for a "fish" with lots of loot and needs a 22-250 to finish up his collection. These later '99's will never be collectible or highly desirable.....the .284's, 375's, and .358's will hold their own with the .358 in the lead due to its thumping power in a fast operating rifle.

It's obvious why the 22-250 is a seldom seen cartridge in the '99 as it was being manufactured at the same time as the Remington 700.

You wanna see desirability.......show me an 1899 in 25-35, 32-40, or the mighty 38-55.-----006
