Little Sunday morning excitement !

Post by 6pt-sika »

Got out early this morning . Climbed my usual thirtyfive feet up my usual tree . Let my scent candle down right at legal shooting light . With the clocks turned back that would be about 06:15 and set there awhile rather Pleasent all be it quite cool morning . About 07:25 I heard something coming behind me and I waited and waited finally this guy got where I could crunch him at about 42 yards . Plunked him with a Hornady 250 rubber tipped bullet in a Harvestor sabot . At the boom he kicked like a mule and down thru the woods for a couple seconds and I heard him crash . As I type this he is now in the freezer in edible portions . By no means is he the biggest racked buck or the biggest bodied deer I’ve killed but he was a bit heftier then what I usually shoot . FWIW I don’t grade them I just try and kill them .

6 pt, if I'm hungry that's the same way I grade 'em but right now freezer space is at a premium so I'm going to be a mite pickier.

.

I usually just shoot the deer that are stupid enough to get close to me, I figure that is what Darwin would want me to do. Occasionally, I will call an animal that doesn't look like it's likely to survive the winter, because I figure the coyotes can eat something else and leave the deer meat for me.

That's my plan.
