Guy Fawkes Day

Post by Ray Newman »

To our Fellow Firearms enthusiasts on the other side of the pond: Happy Guy Fawkes Day!

May the bonfires be spectacular and the ale and beer freely flow.

As the poem goes: "Remember, rember, the fifth of November!" http://www.potw.org/archive/potw405.html

For those Not-In-The Know about ol' Guy Fawkes: https://www.history.com/news/guy-fawkes ... ef-history
The most important aspect of this signature line is that you don't realize it doesn't say anything significant until you are just about done reading it & then it is too late to stop reading it....

Thank you Ray, I wish my younger relations were closer, I used to look forward to bonfire night but its not the same without kids.

When I was a kid in the 50s & 60s all our pocket money was spent on fireworks at this time of year and in those days even little kids could buy fireworks. Any patch of waste ground suddenly had a big bonfire built on it closely guarded by a battalion of local kids as other gangs thought it funny to burn them down or steal the combustibles for their own bonfires..

No health and safety rules and lots of injuries and fire engine turn outs too..
If more men loved and cherished their wives as much as I love bacon the world would be a much better place.

One wonders what would have happened if the plot had succeeded.

I think I would have chosen the words "pillow biting snowflakes."

As I have mentioned in similar posts I was the gamekeeper at Huddington Court Estate which was where the conspirators fled to for fresh gunpowder after fording a river and getting their powder wet. My boss the owner of Huddington Court was an authority on the plot and the plotters, I learned a lot while working there. The Court is moated and was quite well armed back in 1605.
