Marlin 1895 LTD

Post by Rockrat »

Came across an 1895 LTD with the half round/half octagon barrel. Person still has the box for it and said maybe 30 rounds thru it. When were these things made, how do they shoot and whats the thing worth? Looks new.

Hmmm, thinking they were a Davidson's Exclusive offering sometime around 2002 - 2005 give or take.

I don't recall a straight grip model, just the pistol grip. Anyway - they are cool rifles.
To the OP........is the rifle you came across for sale ? If so, good luck with it.

Oh yes. They made a straight stock. Half octagon LTD 1 was my small grail gun until I got a Win 86 EL

There were five different LTD 45-70’s . Atleast one was straight with a half octagon half round barrel and atleast one with a PG and a half half barrel .

Yeah, its for sale and its the PG version, which I prefer. I guess that would make it the LTD V

Back in the day all those LTDs were "holy grail" for some. Me, too. A close second place was the Cowboy and I did get that one. I set it up for a 1000 yard match, but never got to do it.
How much are they asking?

Agreed, I didn't have the resources back then to snag any of the Marlin Exclusives, but I also cobbled onto a Cowboy, the 30-30 CB, couldn't quite get my hands on the 38-55 CB.
The one I really wanted was the 336D, a 35 Rem Guide Gun.

I have an LTD III with the 18" barrel. Tack driver with a 405 hard cast GC at 100 yds and a good load of Varget. If I do my part, a five shot group is less than 2". Shot a fallow deer with it at about 70 yards. Bullet shot straight through, she took about a half step and collapsed.

This is one I'll never part with.

Blaine: I'll wager that a LTD these days is north of US $1000.00. Back when I bought mine, I paid a little over $900.00.

Rifle is marked "Marlin 1895-LTD", 45-70. # DFC001XX, 24” half-octagon barrel, straight stock, no checkering, full magazine tube. Serial number is stamped on left receiver side; barrel has JM proof stamp.

DuckDuckGo found some information (May 2018 thread) about the Marlin LTD rifle series. Scroll down to the ninth post:

The most important aspect of this signature line is that you don't realize it doesn't say anything significant until you are just about done reading it & then it is too late to stop reading it....

Had a 30-30 CB but someone wanted it really badly. Also had a 32mag I wish I still had and a couple of the 38-55 CB's. Still have one left though.

The LTD would be $1100. Tempted, but really don't hunt anymore. Sold my XLR earlier in the year (that thing would shoot). If it had a full octagon barrel, I would probably get it, but I am resisting. Have a few other 45-70's to take its place, a Pedersoli Sharps, a 1884 TD, and an old H&R Shikari when the 45-70 bug bites

It’s all about condition condition condition . Find one that’s best to heck and they’ll still want a bunch because it’s an LTD . Fine one NIB or LNIB now and you’re really gonna pay . We sold a LNIB 444P the other day on GB I told the person that owned it I thought $1200 the gun was unmarked if memory serves it brought $1800 .
