Something new from Springfield Armory

Post by 2ndovc »

The return of the HiPower!

Best news I've heard in some time. I had a pretty extensive collection of military and police HiPowers but sold them all off to capitalize on the investment. There were a couple I should have kept, I'm excited to get my hands on one of these. No magazine disconnect and a better trigger are huge improvements.

Interesting ! Reminds me of the Browning Hi-Power. It weighs less than my Stainless Single Six (4 5/8"bbl). I'm surprised it's only available in 9mm.

Not nearly as spendy as I thot it would be.Blued and wood. Looks really nice, like the ones I lusted after in the 70's.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

I might have to buy one. I have a Range Officer in 9mm and the workmanship is outstanding.

I like the "Parkerized" look as well as the ring hammer. Reminds me of some of the military contract pistols I had.

I was also surprised by the SRP. Darned reasonable I think. I'm hoping that they sell well enough to expand into different finishes and calibers. I'd love one in .30 Luger! Just because I'm weird! :D

I really like what they have done here. Not just a Hi-Power copy, but an improvement.

Used a Hi Power for a short while. Good gun. But the caliber left me wanting. If these are as reliable as the one I had and with today's ammunition it should be a great handgun.

Wow. Anything honoring John Browning gets my respect. This might be the platform that finally makes me like the 9 mm.

Quite a handsome rendition of the classiest gun ever designed for 9x19. I was expecting a higher MRSP as well. The upgrades are quite practical without detracting from the original look

I think that I might have one of them.

Trigger is improved, no mag disconnect, sights are improved, mags from
original HiPowers fit and function, and it's not so expensive.

What's not to like? :D

I sent the SA link to my FFL guy and to let me know when he see's that they are available. He and my dad both want one and I'm in for two of them, hopefully he can bag a consecutive numbered pair with an order of that size. :D

Only one mag :(
I know they only include one to keep the MSRP down, but still....who wants an auto loader with only one mag?
It IS an interesting option and I might pick one up to play with once I find out if additional mags are actually available and less than $50 a pop! I wish I had bought a hi-power years ago.

They're listing magazines for $35 ea. Stop being so cheap. :D
I've got six or more originals, including a few Inglis WWII magazines.

Of all the HiPowers I've had, the later mfg. Browning was my lease favorite. Shot ok, but not as well as the older ones.
Looking forward to these.

You need to read the thread on civility, Jason

35 is not so bad. Some manufacturers are bad about charging 50 or 60 for mags. I'm used to the guns that cost less, come with 3 mags, and extras are $17 bucks!
Cheap? No. Just saving where I can to buy more guns. And gun safes.

A gun with that classic of a look definitely needs a Gold Dot Front Sight. And I am sure JMB wouldnt mind if they offered it in a .40 cal. But definitely a gun I want to see in my own collection.

I seen an ad from CDNN on FB that they had posted the SA-35 on GunBroker for a 3 day auction. With 1 day left it is running around $1200, more than double the MSRP.

Yes, the prices are ridiculous. But I figure they will come down after the initial excitement dies off.

Fortunately, Springfield has magazines available at a reasonable price. And I still get to use my existing magazines.

I spoke with a gunwriter who has had one for some time and he is really impressed with the trigger and the accuracy he was able to obtain.

The SA-35 can handle all +P and +P+ ammunition on the market.

Today, I took delivery of a box full of SA-35 magazines and I'm still working on getting one of the guns in without paying a scalper's price.

Btw the HP was designed in the 30s as a 9x19 and is limited to cartridges of similar length. So no 38 Super, 9x23, 10mm or the like is coming. 30 Luger is possible and probably 22 TCM. Browning made 40 S&W and I wish I had gotten one. 357 Sig is possible. I have seen conversion uppers/mags in 22LR and 41 AE.
