Remington Model 11

Post by 6pt-sika »

My buddy in NE PA that owns Rock Mountain Sporting Clays made it known at his 2022 SxS short there will be atleast one class for Pre 1950 semi auto’s , so in the spirit of things I’ve acquired a couple guns . The first was a Pre WWII Browning Standard Weight 16 gauge with 28” plain full choke barrel which hasn’t arrived yet . The second is a circa 1920-1924 Remington Model 11 12 gauge with a factory original 30”vent rib full choke barrel . The Model 11 appeared today . And I was mildly surprised it looks a good bit better in person over the pictures on GB .

Great ol fowling piece! I did a complete restoration on one when I was in school. Repolished & blued, new wood even had to make up a jig to drill the rivet out to replace the leather buffer on the hump back.

Congrats. Mine was made in '22 and still runs 100%, accounted for a few doves last month. Yours looks a bit nicer than mine.

This one seems fine I shot it twice in the snail at the shop today . But I really wanna see the A-5 16 , got it from an open air auction in Conn. bought the A-5 and a Browning Superposed long tang round knob 410 26 1/2” skeet gun . The 410 was purchased for a long time friend . I got him a same configuration 28 from a Poulins auctions about four months ago .

Killed my first and only wild turkey with a Model 11 16 gauge. The Browning Auto 5 has always come up very gracefully for me.

I had one that was marked with the US Ordinance mark and the firebomb.

It was a 20 inch plain barrelled gun. I don't remember getting rid of it, but I haven't owned it in years.

I do love the Browning Auto 5 and I always shot them well because of the flattop reciever.

I had a Model 11R. Very cool shotgun but I let some guy pay me a whole lot more than I bought it for.

Picked up a barrel for the Model 11 from an auction in Texas I believe it was . Anyway it’s a plain no rib full choke barrel but 32” . A friend in the Remington Society seems to think that length is a bit harder to one by .

Just picked up a pair of Model 11’s on GB . The first was a Sportsman 20 gauge with the short tube and a 28” plain full choke barrel . The other also a Sportsman but a16 gauge with the full length magazine and a solid rib barrel that someone put a doggy dick on years ago . Think I have a plain full choke barrel lined up for the 16 . The A-5 16 I bought earlier will most likely go in the rack at the shop .

Bear in mind these are GB pictures and the guns obviousely are not in my hands yet .

First the 16 solid rib gun with the darn doggy dick on the end of the barrel . Then the 20 . By the pics the 16 seems to be in nicer condition . First three are the 16 rest are the 20 .

I had one from the 1920s with the safety inside the trigger guard. Didn't much care for that feature so I sold it.

The 12 I recently got is that way as well as a Browning A-5 16 gauge Standard weight that just arrived today . The 16 and 20 model 11’s have a more conventional safety . Although all of these will just be used for Sporting Clays, so the safety is a moot point as I leave it off .

I love the A5 Browning, which the Model 11 is a loose copy of. Nothing wrong with the Model 11 that I know of. I do like the magazine cutoff on the actual A5's, which I don't think the Model 11 has, but it's not a deal breaker.

I own several A5's and one FN made in the 20's. It was hard used before I got it and I have used it a lot, and it still works great, and is my favorite A5 version to date. Mine has a solid ribbed barrel and a Cutt's Compensator choke system on it. I really like the Cutt's on the end of the solid ribbed barrel, which is only about 26" in length overall. I have to aim a shotgun, and look right down barrel and that Cutt's is very easy to pickup with my eye, under about all light conditions

I had a group of Belgian A-5’s from the mid to late 60’s into the early 70’s . They were all made during the flat knob period I guess you’d say , but they didn’t meet the age range for the event . Actually still have one of them a MAG 12 and three barrels . Cutts for some reason I always liked the looks of , a Polychoke however not so much . Back in my skeet days about thirty or so years ago Kolar took it upon themselves to reinvent/redirect the basic Cutts design the biggest difference I ever saw was the positioning of the slot or ports . A real Cutts generally has them on the top and bottom while the Kolar has them on the right and left . Kolar claimed that kept any smoke or whatever from blocking vision , I’ve shot both designs a good bit and never saw any difference .

I am fortunate that after a lifetime of shotguns I finally got an Auto5 when I was well past 60. No one around here had them, at the clubs I shot at it was all 870's model 12's and some over unders. late in the 70's some of the top Shooters brought out the Perazzi guns. I like the way the long recoil guns shoot. Hope You do well with them 6pt. :) .

Thank you sir ! It just adds one to three more events at a shoot in PA and hopefully another in NC .

Dad passed me his M.11 back in the '60's when he was passed my Grandpa's Browning A-5 which he bought just after the war. The Model 11 was made in October 1940. The Browning, which I have now, was made by Remington but, has the mag cut-off. Those 2 guns has made a lot of meals for the family!

The Model 11 20 gauge arrived today . I’m going to take the Sportsman in tommorrow and see if the barrels swap . The new one needs a new spring something to do with the trigger assembly and it’s already ordered from Numrich . Other than this spring deal the gun looks in very decent to good shape .

I have one of the old short chambered 16 ga A-5s with the fore and aft moving safety in the trigger guard. I have two barrels both started as full chokes but I reamed one to improved cylinder and the other to about improved modified. It's my main shotgun for everything except waterfowl on crummy days or if I'm hunting out of somebody else's metal boat. I shoot bismuth where required.

Picked up my sixth humpback autoloader today and the fifth f the Remington ones . This one is an unadorned Model 11 12 gauge with a 42” solid rib full choke barrel . I think I need to be rid of the Browning A-5 standard weight 16 and the Remington Sportsman 20 . Then I’ll be down to a pair of 12’s with an extra barrel a 16 with an extra barrel and a 20 all Model 11’s ! 8)
