BLR Model 81 scope mount question

Post by brionic »

Hello friends, I apologize if this has been previously discussed. My search here and elsewhere has been fruitless, or the answers were a decade old.

Is there any interchangeability among BLR 81; BAR; and BPR bases? Base radius and screw-to-screw distance for front or rear base are what I'm after, rather than front-to-rear base distance or total mount length.

I am looking for an extended Weaver front mount for my BLR Model 81 short action. I want to install an Aimpoint style optic, as low as possible, atop the front mounting screws.

My googling reveals only single slot mounts in the Weaver style, and full length pedestal-style 1913 mounts. I am not opposed to trimming a full length mount down to size, but I would prefer a lower base, which is why I'm after a Weaver.

Warne made, at one time, an extended Weaver three-slot mount for the BAR, but that model appears to be discontinued. They do still manufacture a full receiver length Weaver mount for the BAR.

I appreciate your help.

So, 1913 rail it is. Warne tells me - promptly, by the way - that their BAR bases have a different radius than their BLR bases. 0.670" for the BAR; 0.560" for the BLR.

EGW base looks to be the best bet so far. Tally makes one for the BLR, also rebranded by Browning, but it appears to sit atop two pedestals and weighs twice the EGW's weight. Maybe steel vs aluminum.

Also, weirdly, apparently my 1985 BLR short action uses mount spacing for the long action - 3.187" spread, vs. the short action's 2.812". So I need a long action base for my short action steel receiver.

Primary Arms tell me their Gen 1 prism sights use T1-style mounts, but the new smaller gen 2 1x sight uses the mini-ACOG. One humorous note, when I was speaking with their customer service and asked about their lowest mounts, aftermarket vs OEM, he became frustrated and couldn't answer to his own satisfaction. "I wish they included better specs" he remarked, and I told him, So Say We All.

Luckily the screw spacing is the same so shortening a full length rail to three is no different LA vs SA
