From a Good Friend of Mine

Post by JimT »

Things you wouldn't know if you didn't watch YouTube:

1) The Walker Colt weighed 9 pounds;
2) Remington brought out the top strap 1858 after the Colt patent ran out;
3) Elmer Keith invented the .357 Magnum;
4) the .44-40 1st arrived in the 1866 Winchester;
5) Winchester bought the company from B. Tyler Henry.

If ignorance is bliss these folks should be deliriously happy.

I did just learn there is a difference between the Walker and the Walker Dragoon.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

250 Savage... its what the 223 wishes it could be...!

One place to learn about the timeline of the various models is John Taffin's Book of the .44 Caliber.

Had more 'n a couple people, knowing that I'm a gun person, ask me if I'm an 'expert'.

I assure them I am, a walking, ever-running fount of knowledge and lore.

Then I let them know there's one thing the other 'experts' won't bring up - that totally half of what I tell them is absolute b.s.

It's true, the older I get, I find there's less that I know.

Today, it seems, everyone is entitled to their own personal set of "facts".

The internet has allowed idiots to claim to be experts. Some on there truly know sic 'em from come here, but many don't.

Just think some people believe this stuff! People are gullible.
Years ago I went skiing in Vermont, while in the bar I heard this guy talking about the mounted jackalope on the wall.
He could not believe what he was seeing. So within 15 minutes and about 4 more beers, I had him totally believing there was a large heard of Jackalope on the other side of Killington. I even pointed it out on the map on the wall where I had seen a nice size heard just that morning! My buddy's live for my improve! They put on there poker faces and just listen!
I sent him off and his great adventure looking for the endangered Mountain Jackalope of northern New England! I let him know that my dad shot the biggest one in the state in 1962.
It was 4 lbs of fluff with 10 beautiful point's! Come to think of it, there might have been quite a bit of alcohol involved!

Just remember:

X is an unknown

A spurt is a drip under pressure

That makes an expert an unknown drip under pressure

LarkBill, I used to work with a man who when called an expert would respond.
An X is a has been and a spurt is a drip under pressure!
He was neither of those!
