Some Simply Rugged Stuff

Post by 2ndovc »

If you're not on their mailing list, you are missing out. The holster on the right was on the Gear to Go page w/ a 20% off code. Great deal and it was on my front porch in less than a week! This makes my third one so far and I've been quite pleased with the product and customer service. A question I had was answered almost immediately.
This is much more than I can say for El Paso Saddlery right now. What a debacle I have going on there. I'll fill in the details on that when things are resolved.

:D

Rob Leahy is a personal friend and a great individual. He stands behind his work! I have some of his holsters from when he was still in Alaska years ago as well as some current ones. Great stuff!

Sorry about that! I was really surprised to see one on there for a 3 3/4" barrel Bisley. I was overcome with emotion.

Not sure, but I suspect the gear are orders that for some reason or another were canceled or returned in new condition. Makes good sense to sell them at reduced prices. I've picked up quite a few including this one.

I don't usually go for carving but this handgun just seemed to deserve something a bit fancy.

Very nice! Other than vintage Heiser holsters, I only have one floral carved piece I bought for my Bowen SBH.

My dad has a set of the Colt WWII pistols. Have you seen what they are going for lately? Last set I saw on Gunbroker were up over $6k!

I have my dad’s bring backs one is a rather pedestrian P-38. The other is a spectacular Luger with the wooden stock holster. I imagine the Luger is worth a bit but it’s more valuable to the family.

Rob has a great price on a 1911 slide, with a 20% discount, on the gear to go page #2, discount code is SUMMER.

now I wish I had a picnic gun, but the slide will just have to make peace with the cheap clone of the 1911-A1, roll stamped American Classic. Suits me. I could get some fake ivory and make new scales. Nah.

reminds me of sitting in my car on a quiet side street in a Tecate suburb, when a compact car pulled up and a well dressed gent, with pearl handle nickle 1911, stepped out with a sheaf of papers and walked toward a nearby door. I sped right on out of there. Wondering if he was going to a BBQ, or serving a warrant.

I was picked for jury duty years ago on a child neglect/ endangerment case. The deputy involved with the investigation strolled in with a nickel plated 1911 on his belt. My first thought was, this guy is cool! :D

Nice holsters. Like how they contrast with the revolvers. I just noticed to that a bunch of stainless SP101s in 38 with 3" barrels are on market. Claim they are police trade ins. Hope a few find their way up here.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

Slick!

I'm embarrassed to say I didn't know much about Simply Rugged until fairly recently. They will be my go to for holsters from now on. I ordered a holster from El Paso Saddlery in May, it finally showed two months later and it was made incorrectly. It's been another month of phone calls and emails and still no resolution.

These are both supposed to be right hand cross draw. The tan one was made properly, the new one on the left has a bit of an issue and completely useless.

At this point it looks like I'm out about $150.

I really like custom leather. I usually order holsters for new handguns from one of my favorite leathersmiths. But it does take time. Meanwhile I always order something from Simply Rugged. One of the great things about SR is that they will make anything they manufacture in left handed. This isn't always the case even with large manufacturers.

It's not the wait, I have quite a few custom holsters. It's the lack of interest in correcting the issue that is the disappointing part.

You need to look further afield for your leathersmiths.

I think i found one with Simply Rugged. Interestingly enough though, it looks like I got through to the right person yesterday. He apologized for the lack of communication from his company told me he would have a new one made over the weekend and on it's way the first of the week. We'll see what happens. He also told me that they are experiencing the same problems that a large part of the country is; lack of materials and qualified employees.
I'll update this when it gets here.

I hate to show some of my holsters because they get gouged up over time. But I’ve worn this one for 5 years and shot the Gunsite Alumni Match with it two years ago. It’s the most comfortable way to carry a Commander that I know of.
