Loose Lever on Model 94

Post by Bridger »

I know that Winchester 94s are known for being somewhat “loose”, and I get that such is just the nature of the design. But does it look like my lever is more “floppy” than it should be? It seems like it’s a little more loose and hangs a bit lower than many of them I see/have held.
Thoughts? Maybe I’m just too particular....

I should add that it’s a 78 or 79 vintage...

Looks about like my 1950 vintage '94.

.

It hangs lower with increasing age... :?

Much like a ageing women's breast! I does seem a bit low to me.
Perhaps someone on the forum knows of a cure for that aliment!
I know personally I don't like when they have play side to side.
Or when they droop a bit.

One thing I have noticed is that, the as a general rule, the pre-64's ride higher and tighter, and the post 64's are usually a little looser and hang down a little farther, which is one reason, I can pretty much be blindfolded and tell the difference by the feel of the gun alone, when I pick one up, as to pre-64 vs post 64. I have several of each, some are more obvious then others. Probably, the loosest ones I have ever owned were the angle-ejects, more so then the 60's and 70's guns.

For what it's worth, my 94 Trapper in .357/.38 (angle-eject, crater safety, etc.) has a screw in the underside forward part of the hinged floor plate that my .45 Trapper (1985 angle-eject, pre-crater satety) and AE .30-30 don't have. While the .45 and .30-30 have slight but noticeable lever droop and sideplay, the .357 has none whatsoever and feels very solid.
