"Flying Circus" image

Wow, I didn't realize so many Fokker triplanes were in flying condition! Neat to see!

Flying Circus.jpg

Reminds me of the old joke where an allied WWII fighter pilot was being interviewed on The Tonight Show and the exchange went like this...

Pilot: "And then a couple of Fokkers came swooping down on me from out of the sun..."

Johnny: "Don't you mean Messerschmitts?"

Pilot: "Well, whatever they were... Those fokkers were trying to kill me!"

Third from the bottom Herman Goering's plane? His plane had a white colour scheme.

There was a fellow in Southern Oregon that had a Fokker Triplane -- bright red -- but my memory is it was a reproduction at 90 percent of scale or some such. Still a sight to see.

There are several places around the country building replicas, including one in Missouri. Alaina at Culver Propellers supplies hand built wooden props for many of them. She learned from her grandpa and operates out of a barn near Rolla, Mo.

Back in the the 20th Century I knew an FAA guy who built a Fokker replica. His bosses at the FAA made it clear that they considered it extremely inappropriate that a Federal Airworthiness Inspector was flying around in an experimental triplane, so he grudgingly sold it. He did have an enormous poster sized photo of it in flight on the wall of his office up until he retired. The airplane ended up in a museum, though I don't recall where now.
