Like a time capsule
I was looking for things to bring to Raton next month and I came across a package from Jeff. It looks like he sent it to me in 2010.

It was the twin to an almost identical package that contained 1000 new Starline brass in .44 Special with the Shootists head stamp. I think I’ll bring it unopened to open it in Raton.

I've got a thousand of those Shootist headstamped .44 Specials. Over half of them are stored away yet. I ought to shoot more!

I've been shooting out of that first thousand for the past 10 years. Haven't lost a case or split a neck yet! It will likely last me the rest of my life.

Yeah ... I have not lost any either.

That's a great advantage of the single action sixgun, you can dump the shells right into your hand instead of scattering them all through the grass, weeds and gravel. That's really something, Jeff left a lot of memories behind. Bud gave me just over a box of those and I ordered up some Keith SWC's to load into them. Plan on using the Skeeter load as it just seems "right" for the brass and the sixgun they are destined for.

That Skeeter load is what I cut all my sights to. Its plenty, but not too much to where I don't enjoy it.

I run something similar in my Rossi 431. Can't recall the load off the top of my head, but it handles similarly to my S&W HB model 10 with standard 158 gr loads. Just enough more recoil to let you know you've "stepped up your game", but not enough to disrupt the process.Scott Tschirhart wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 8:07 am That Skeeter load is what I cut all my sights to.
