Ordered a new Winchester '73

Post by 2ndovc »

Apparently Iowa is a lot farther away from Ohio than I thought, but after a month's wait it's finally here. This was a New Old Stock deal I found on Gunbroker that I got a pretty good price on. I'd started looking for a SRC, but saw this one and here it is. I had an original in .32WCF but is was really a wreck and sold it years ago. This is my first Winchester/Miroku, so far I'm pretty impressed. The fit and finish are outstanding with a deep, dark blue and a couple of beautiful pieces of walnut. The 26" barrel balances perfectly for me. Hoping to get to the range tomorrow, hope it shoots as well as it looks. :D

That looks nice. You gonna break itin with jacketed bullets? Hey found an Old Army with fixed sights in highly polised stainless steel. Only $825, told him I would only buy it if he had 2 more lol
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

Left that part out, didn't I ? I was all set to buy a .357 Magnum because I have a lot of components for the .38/357 but since I have two carbines in that cal. and none in .45 Colt that made this one that much more attractive. :D

Todd,
We have an Ohio Gun Collector's show this weekend. I should be able to find one there. If not, I'm sure something will jump out at me. :D

Congratulations sir, beautiful rifle. I bought the Miroku/Winchester SRC in 44-40, put a tang sight on it and really like it but, like my original from 1896, the groove diameter is .431 so I'm out of luck for jacketed bullets and the loads for it won't chamber in my Colts.

Certainly is an attractive rifle. A slightly larger version of the Marlin 1894CL. I think I'd like one of these in .357
Forgive me, but what does SRC stand for ?

Saddle Ring Carbine. Always my favorite version of any lever action. :D

Depending on how this one shoots, a .357 saddle ring will be next on the list. Not sure if I'll get out tomorrow, I forgot I was scheduled for my second Covid vacc. this evening. The first one kicked my butt, hoping the second won't be as bad as some have experienced.

Very attractive rifle. I can't wait for your report.

There is an original SRC in a local shop that looks like it just came from the factory. Of course it is chambered in .44 WCF (though the gun is marked simply ".44 cal" on the bottom of the elevator).

I am smitten, but not enough to get my wallet out.

However, I have been playing so much with the .44 Special lately that I am tempted to pick up a Uberti SRC in that chambering.

Lovely rifle! Personally I like the looks of the long barreled rifles more than the shorter carbines. And with the half magazine it's even sleeker. 45 Colt? Sweet!

That's an interesting configuration for a new Miroku with that length mag tube and 26" barrel. Their rifle versions are usually 24".

That's what I thought as well, probably why they weren't big sellers. The guy I bought it from had three at $999, much less then the other one I was looking at and I really liked the style of it as well. Going to order a tang sight for it today. :D

Great looking rifle. I have always liked rifles with 2/3 magazine tubes. I have a 92 Miroku and like it a lot except the rear sight. It's not that the sight is bad I just don't like buckhorn style sights.
