Vortex scopes are pretty darned tough.
I was moving some rifles around the other day and dropped the FrankenFinn right on the hardwood floor, scope first. I thought for sure a 3'-3 1/2' drop like that would knock something loose but everything was still where it's supposed to be. Took it out for a few rounds and the same POI as the last time out. Only damage I could find was a little mark on the top adjustment cap and a nice little dent in Blondie's bamboo floor. She'll notice eventually but there's no sense pointing it out. Besides, it's nothing like what the M1A did when I dropped that one a couple years ago.

I keep hearing a lot of positive comments about Vortex scopes.

Re: Vortex scopes are pretty darned tough.
Last summer I ordered a Vortex, from Amazon. All I got was an empty box! Took weeks of emails & phone calls to get credit. I figure someone at the distribution center wanted the same scope and stuck it in his pants. Ive no use for dishonesty.

I buy very little from Amazon anymore. I don't care for the whole outfit.
Doc,
It didn't really surprise me. When you buy junk, that's what you get. The Vortex scopes aren't quite as expensive as the Leupolds I usually buy but it's the third one I've had and no complaints. I have the 30mm version on my Scout Squad and the other was a red dot that I traded off. Nothing wrong with it, they just don't work well with my vision no matter who made them.

30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

Re: Vortex scopes are pretty darned tough.
From personal experience and running a gun club, I have seen hundreds of different scopes come through here. Vortex is definately one of the most popular here in the past couple years for long distance and hunting. One observation I have is their cheap priced models, in my opinion, are junk. I've seen a few unusable out of the box. But, their higher end scopes are very, very nice. And their warranty program is great. I bought a used Viper for long distance. I bought it used and a little beat. I mounted it on a Ruger Precision Rifle. Before I fired one shot, the wind caught the rubber matt on the bench and flipped it about 5' in the air, landing on the scope, and bent the top turret. I sent it in and had it back in 10 days in better condition than when I bought it. New turret, cap and knobs. I used it to hit a little over a mile three times with no issues. All my other scopes are Leupolds but I have zero issues with Vortex.

Re: Vortex scopes are pretty darned tough.
I do contend that those super cheap no name scopes for a .22 lr that are 4 power fixed are some of the worst junk ever built. I got one when I was 16. The quality would have to improve before they reach worthless status.
I have a couple of Nikon scopes. Pretty good. You don't have to pay more than the gun to get a decent scope, but it should be worth more than a box of ammo.
